Process to Become A Foster Parent in Palm Beach County, Florida

Caring for children who have been abused or neglected and being a role model for biological parents working to reunify with their children is a significant responsibility.

You may participate in various levels of training and then ultimately decide you are not ready at this time. That's ok, you have learned about the opportunity and can share it with others.

One of the most important factors is the commitment to care for and provide a safe and stable environment to a child.

How Do I Become A Foster Parent?

  • Start by attending an orientation/information session--click here  for upcoming information sessions
  • Once you've decided to move forward, complete the application and schedule your pre-service training
  • Participate in a home inspection
  • Complete 20 to 30 hours* of pre-service foster parent training. During these classes, you will be introduced to the foster care system and learn how to care for a foster child.
  • Complete a CPR course
  • Complete Water Safety training (if applicable)
  • Receive Medical Clearance (if applicable)
  • Supply valid pet vaccinations (if applicable)
  • Favorability pass a child abuse and criminal background check (for all members of your household)
  • Participate in a home study by the foster care licensing agency to review your readiness for fostering
  • Be accepted and follow-through with licensing requirements
  • Be prepared and ready to welcome foster children into your home
While attending the pre-service training class, you will complete the other foster care licensing requirements, including home study and background checks.

You will be guided through the licensing process. Once completed and approved, you will be prepared and ready to welcome foster children into your home.

A plea for the teens...
Yes we know we can be challenging but we need you!  We may not think we do when we first meet you but stick with us, show us what real parenting looks like, and we will blossom!
